About Me
Before training as a counsellor I worked as a research scientist in the fields of genetics and cancer research at Edinburgh University.
After gaining my PhD in Genetics I moved to Edinburgh where I worked at the university. I am also a qualified teacher of biology and currently lecture part time at a further education college in Edinburgh. I established my private counselling practice in 2004 in Edinburgh and moved in 2010 to Cockenzie, East Lothian.
I live with my partner and our two dogs in Cockenzie and my hobbies include walking the dogs, music and photography.
Why the name Amaranth?
The logo for Amaranth Counselling is the flower Amaranthus caudatus commonly known as “Love Lies Bleeding” The amaranth flower in ancient times was associated with psychological healing and its name means immortal due to the long duration of its flowers. Personally I just liked the name.
